Understanding the Basics
Texas Holdem Poker is a game of strategy, skill, and chance. It involves 2 to 10 players and uses a standard 52-card deck. Each player aims to create the best five-card hand.
- Aces can be high or low.
- Two through Ten are face value.
- Jacks, Queens, and Kings are worth ten points each.
The Deal
Each player receives two private cards (hole cards), which belong to them alone. Five community cards are dealt face-up on the ‘board’.
- The dealer shuffles the deck.
- Each player gets two cards facedown.
- Five community cards are dealt in three stages.
Betting Rounds
There are four betting rounds in Texas Holdem Poker, starting pre-flop and continuing until the river.
- Pre-Flop: After receiving hole cards, the first betting round occurs.
- Flop: Three community cards are dealt face-up, followed by another round of betting.
- Turn: A fourth community card is dealt, followed by a third betting round.
- River: The final community card is dealt, followed by the last betting round.
Action Options
During each betting round, players have several actions they can take.
- Check: Pass the action to the next player without adding money to the pot.
- Bet: Place a wager if no one else has bet.
- Call: Match the current bet.
- Raise: Increase the current bet.
- Fold: Forfeit the hand.
